How to quit smoking, drinking and drug addiction

Drug addicted people feel enjoyment in this habit but it’s a punishment. Yes, a punishment to them and their family which seems to them as a matter of pleasure and splendor. Until the period a person is under the influence of drug feels like a king of kings but after a couple of hours finds themselves as a slave of slaves. Drug addiction is harmful physically, mentally, socially, economically, and to the family as well. Now a question arises – How to avoid or quit this habit. If you want to quit the habit(to quit smoking, drinking and drug addiction), follow these steps:

1.Practice Meditation

Meditation is one of the solutions to this problem. When we do meditation, it provides us many divine powers with truth, wisdom, health, and peace. Our mind gets calm, happy, and gradually more efficient and powerful.

After achieving true happiness, our mind comes into our control. It stops wandering here and there for materialistic and temporary pleasure.
Our senses come into our control. We become capable of utilizing our energy into work, productivity, and creativity. Our dignity and destiny follow us when we are aware and awaken. There is no shortcut in a spiritual path. Shortcuts are more often risky and make us fall. It is up to us only what we want to do. It is totally in our control that we want happiness for a short period (temporarily) or long-lasting( or permanent), for just ourselves or all.

2. Always remind yourself about the harms of this habit

You should always think about how this smoking, drinking and drug addiction affects your body, mind, your economic condition, your relationship with others, and your social life negatively whenever you have a strong desire for these habit-forming substances. This can help your mind to distract from this habit.

3. Avoid situations or feelings that lead you to consume these products

This is not an easy task but with strong will and determination, you can overcome those situations and feelings that force you to do that.

4. Throw away all these habit-forming narcotic substances from your house

Doing this helps you avoid the temptation of these substances.

5. Give up the people who regularly drink/smoke.

6. To Quit Smoking/Drinking Don’t go to the places where people take these drugs.

7. Keep yourself busy

Keep yourself busy with friends and society, get enough sleep, and eat something at different times of the day to prevent those situations which can include feeling lonely, hungry, angry, and tired. These situations often lead a person to take alcohol or other drugs.

8. To quit smoking/drinking find some alternatives to drug addiction

Some more positive alternatives to drug addiction are reading the books of your interest, taking a walk, or keep in touch with friends.

9. Take the help of Pranayamas, Yogas and physical exercises

Some Yoga Asanas are highly beneficial for stopping drug addiction (especially smoking) such as Savasana, Sheershasana (Headstand), bow pose (Dhanurasana), cobra pose (Sarpasana), and child pose. These asanas not only heals your respiratory and circulatory system but also calms down your nerves.

Some Pranayama (a technique to control our breath and mind) with these asanas which can be most effective in relieving this addiction are Sudarshan Kriya, Bhrastika, Kapalbhati, and Anulom-Vilom.

Also doing physical exercises half an hour daily helps in improving health and distracts your mind from taking these drugs.

10. Take some Ayurvedic treatment to quit the habit of smoking and drinking

In Ayurveda, there are various methods helpful in quitting smoking and drinking. Nowadays there are various Ayurvedic herbal cigarettes available in the market (contains Ayurvedic herbs and extracts instead of Nicotine/Tobacco) that provide an alternative to smoking without the addictive properties of nicotine that are associated with traditional tobacco bidi and cigarettes.

11. Involve yourself in some creative hobby

Concentrate your mind with some creative hobbies according to your capabilities such as writing, painting, drawing, solving puzzles, listening favorite music and surfing. It not only gives you pleasure but also distracts your mind from smoking and drinking.

People take drugs in various forms like Bidi(a thin Indian cigarette filled with tobacco flake and commonly wrapped in a Tendu leaf), Cigarette, tobacco, alcohol, cocaine, charas, Ganja, tablets, capsules and injections.

By practicing meditation we become connected to god. By following the methods mentioned (to quit smoking/drinking) above our behavior (way of speaking and responding to others) becomes sweet. We start smiling. We become better and better human beings day by day. Impossible turns into possible. We get transformed from bad to good and from good to the divine.
Those who spend their time, money, and energy into drug addictions invite diseases. Then, they spend their time, money, and energy to cure these diseases. Instead of it, we should avoid drugs and get connected to God/our soul by meditation for the sake of our and our dear one’s happiness and wellness. It only takes a couple of minutes out of 24 hours to meditate and in return, we get all success and happiness throughout life.
